This directive (effective 1 July 1981) deals with safe work in gravel, sand and clay pits, and ore storage dumps. Sections cover: general rules (planning the extraction with an eye to cave-ins, landslips and exposure to atmospheric contaminants, etc.); cave-in and landslip control measures (precautions when moving overburden, correct shaping of banks, etc.); prevention of traffic and handling accidents (protecting the dragline winch operator against a wire rope breakage, safe layout of dump truck discharge points, etc.); control measures for pollution, noise and vibration exposure.
