CIS 79-1055 Labour Inspectorate Directives concerning the monitoring of atmospheric pollutants during welding and the evaluation of measurement results
Contents: determination of atmospheric pollutants; determination of mean concentration of particulate pollutants in welding fume; sampling apparatus (pump, flowmeter, flexible tubing, filter holder and filters; weighing of filters); determination of maximum concentration of particulate pollutants; determination of gaseous pollutants (nitrogen oxides, ozone, carbon monoxide); evaluation of results; calculation of TLV. Annex: list of Danish suppliers of sampling and analysis equipment.

1976

CIS 77-1716 Notification No.28/1976 concerning health hazards in gas cutting, welding and reheating (oxyacetylene and similar processes)
These directives apply to gas cutting and welding, flame cleaning, straightening after preheating, and metallising. They spell out the health hazards involved (fume, aerosols, gases; infrared radiation; noise) and indicate the harmful products given off when the workpiece is coated with oil, paints, plastics, metals, etc. Recommended occupational health and hygiene measures: reduction of air pollution (cleaning of workpiece surface before the operation); elimination of pollutants (general ventilation, local exhaust ventilation; description of local exhaust ventilation devices for gas cutting (oxyacetylene, etc.) workposts, for welding sets and for metallising enclosures); eye protection (filter lenses: tables for choosing degree of absorption according to quantities of oxygen and acetylene consumed).

1975

CIS 76-1608 Directives for the inspection by radiography of welded seams in pressure vessels, boilers and pipes
Compliance rules for manufacturers concerning X-ray or gamma-ray inspection of welded seams in pressure vessels. Contents: general provisions (grant of authorisations to carry out radiographic inspection procedures, by the Labour Inspectorate, the Public Health Directorate and the Danish Radiation Protection Institute; required safety materials and devices; operator's degree of skills and training required; etc.). Reference is made to ISO International Recommendations for this type of inspection.

CIS 76-512 Notification No.13/1975 concerning control of air pollution and of radiations during MIG and TIG welding
A review of the health hazards due to smoke, gases (carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, ozone) and ultraviolet and infrared radiation emitted during the MIG and TIG processes is followed by an outline of prevention measures to be taken at the welding site: general ventilation; local exhaust ventilation (illustrated by several examples of devices attached to the welding bench or gun); use of filter glass spectacles (with details of the light transmission factor to be chosen according to the welding current intensity). Undertakings are required to employ competent persons to ensure that the measures recommended are observed.

CIS 75-1726 Notification No.3/1975 concerning air pollution during welding and heat treatment of coated materials
Gas welding and cutting and heat treatment of materials coated with anticorrosive or insulating agents represent health hazards due to pyrolysis products given off as smoke. After listing the toxic or irritant substances that may be released, according to the composition of the coating, the present notification specifies protective measures at the workplace: local exhaust systems, removal of the coating before welding, etc. Employers ae required to monitor the workplace air to ensure that the threshold limit values for the toxic substances involved are not exceeded.

1974

CIS 75-1725 Notification No.29/1974 concerning air pollution control during welding of stock treated with oil
Oil films left on metal parts after corrosion protection or machining with coolants can give rise to irritating or harmful aerosols when the film evaporates or is pyrolysed during welding. To keep oil aerosols within the threshold limit value of 5mg/m3, it is recommended that oily metal parts should be cleaned before welding. Effective ventilation and a separate cooling area for hot welded structures should also be provided.

CIS 74-2017 Notification No.10/1974 concerning air pollution control during manual arc welding with coated electrodes at changing locations
Measures for the protection of arc welders working on large structures at changing locations and using coated electrodes: general ventilation (with formulas for calculating the air-exchange rate required to maintain the welding fume concentration below 10mg/m3); respiratory protection; local exhaust arrangements (with several illustrated examples); special measures to be taken when using coated electrodes containing zinc, lead, cadmium, etc.; periodical determination of fume and dust concentrations.
