CIS 78-1452 Saws - Directives for safe work with machines for sawing wood and wood products

These directives (entry into force: 1 Jan. 1980) lay down safety rules for the design, use, adjustment and maintenance of these machines. Contents: definitions; general rules for all saws of this category (blade guards, protection against kickback of piece, riving knife, sharpening and marking of saw blades, etc.); special rules concerning safety devices, feed and ejection devices, controls, blade guide, etc. for frame saws, band saws and circular saws.

The duties of employers, employees, safety supervisors and equipment manufacturers and suppliers are specified and safety devices and personal protective equipment are detailed (in particular round wood). Detailed instructions are given: for the design of measurement workposts at chain conveyers and on platforms; for measuring wood in rail trucks (prevention of contact with electrical conductors) and on measuring plates; for protection against injury, inclement weather and draughts; for noise, vibration and dust control; for maintenance and good housekeeping.
