These directives (effective 1 July 1983) apply to premises where the air temperature is kept below +16°C. Sections cover: definitions; general rules (avoidance of cold stress and of excessive cooling of hands, provision of a cold-insulated room for ticking-off order sheets, mechanical handling aids to avoid contact with frozen meat, etc.); premises (tightly shutting doors for thermal insulation, air temperatures in rooms where continuous tasks are performed should be close to +16°C, etc.); personal protective equipment (clothing against loss of body temperature); instruction of employees. CIS 80-1809 Handling of meat carcasses

This directive (effective 1 July 1981) concerns the handling, loading and unloading of meat carcasses, quarters and sides, including the use of mechanical equipment to avoid manual lifting and carrying. Minimum floor to ceiling clearance of communication ways and passages: 2.1m (doors:2.0m); passages and doors should have adequate lighting (at least 100lx) and floor surfaces should be non-slippery and free from obstructions. Commentaries and extract from the Swedish legislation concerning communication ways in the food trade.
