These directives (effective 1 July 1983) apply to premises where the air temperature is kept below +16°C. Sections cover: definitions; general rules (avoidance of cold stress and of excessive cooling of hands, provision of a cold-insulated room for ticking-off order sheets, mechanical handling aids to avoid contact with frozen meat, etc.); premises (tightly shutting doors for thermal insulation, air temperatures in rooms where continuous tasks are performed should be close to +16°C, etc.); personal protective equipment (clothing against loss of body temperature); instruction of employees. CIS 79-609 Directives for the construction, inspection and safety maintenance of controlled mechanical storage cranes

These directives (effective 1 Jan. 1979) apply to all types of controlled mechanical storage cranes and their transfers. Contents: definitions; general rules (safety by design); storage crane design (stability, lifting and travelling mechanisms, load-bearing elements, protective safe distances, driver's cab and controls, layout of controls, protective roof, emergency lighting, emergency exit, safety catch devices, speed limiting devices, slack rope switches, limit switches, buffers, electrical and hydraulic equipment, name plates, platforms and ladders for maintenance personnel); design of storage crane transfers (stability, travelling mechanism, interlock protection for movements, safe distances, etc.); enclosure prohibiting access to unauthorised persons; main starting switch and emergency stop device; operators' qualifications; periodic checking of this equipment, safety maintenance, inspections.

CIS 75-339 Amendment of directives concerning work in cold-storage rooms (No.95)
Ändring av anvisningar om arbete i frysrum (nr.95) [en sueco]
Amendment to the directives analysed under CIS 74-1229: A sign must be affixed on or near the door in cold-storage rooms, explaining how help can be obtained if the door is accidentally locked. The emergency signal switch must have a built-in lamp and must be kept free from stacked goods. Cold-storage rooms having a surface of more than 25m2 must be equipped with an emergency lighting system.

CIS 74-1229 Work in cold-storage rooms

These directives apply to work in temperatures from -18°C to -40°C. Subjects dealt with include: exposure to draughts; lighting; stacking of goods; protection against being locked in; personal protective equipment; thermal insulation of working equipment; work breaks; medical supervision; planning of new cold-storage depots. Considerations on suitable work clothing for cold-storage workers are appended (thermal insulation capacity, transport of humidity and excess heat, etc.).
