Circular of 15 December 1975 concerning medical prevention of pneumoconiosis and silicosis in coal mines
Circulaire du 15 décembre 1975 relative aux mesures de prévention médicale de la pneumoconiose et de la silicose dans les mines de houille. [en francés]
This French ministerial circular promulgates the text of Instruction DM/H No.1739 concerning the measurement of dust levels and the prevention of silicosis by limiting exposure. Dust sampling is carried on throughout each work shift; dust levels are determined by gravimetry. Definition of dust hazard rating (based on average dust level, free silica content and a standard permissible dust level by way of reference) used to classify underground workplaces in 6 grades. Periodicity of dust sampling varies according to grade. This classification of workplaces, together with the evaluation of workers' aptitudes and health status (by chest radiography), can be used as a basis for personnel deployment and limitation of exposure to dust. The Instruction also contains provisions concerning statistics, and a section on rules to be issued in mines for the implementation of the Instruction. Comments on, and explanations concerning epidemiological trends, standard permissible dust level for reference, dust level measurement, grading of worksites according to dust hazard and posting of personnel are given in Document DM/H No.1737, Ministry of Industry and Research, Directorate of Mines (Ministère de l'industrie et de la recherche, Direction des mines), 99 rue de Grenelle, 75700 Paris, France, 15 Dec. 1975. 20p.
