Health and Safety: The Gas Safety (Installations and Use) Regulations 1998 [United Kingdom]
These Regulations consolidate and modify British legislation concerning the safe installation and use of gas fittings in order to protect the public from dangers arising from the distribution, supply and use of gas. The 1994 Regulations on the same topic, and their two 1996 amendments, are revoked.

These Regulations impose safety requirements on the installation and use of gas fittings for the purposes of protection against personal injury, fire, explosion or other damage arising from the use of gas supplied through pipes (mines and factories are excluded from the scope of the Regulations). Contents: geneal provisions concerning gas fittings; meter installations; installation pipes; gas appliances. Some provisions of the Gas Safety Regulations 1972 (see CIS 73-668) are amended.

The Gas Safety Regulations 1972
These regulations are applicable to domestic and industrial premises and lay down requirements regarding: the safe installation of service pipes, meters, installation pipes and gas appliances; use of gas (consumer responsibility with regard to appliances in an unsafe condition); and work done on all gas fittings after first installation. Penalties for contravention of the Regulations are indicated.
