Título Chromate dermatitis in an engine assembly department
Información bibliográfica Jan. 1986, Vol.14, No.1, p.66-67. 2 ref.
Resumen In an automotive engine assembly department, about 150 assemblers handle zinc-plated components that have been coated with hexavalent chromium (chromates). Protective gloves cannot be used, as fingertip feel is needed, and each assembler has almost continous contact with chromate-coated parts. This has caused 9 cases of chromate dermatitis since the coating was introduced in 1976. All the victims have suffered from the effects of steroid ointments as well as from relapses of eczema. Although so-called yellow chromation is clearly unsuitable for components that are manually handled, no alternative has been developed and its use is spreading.
