Resumen The printing industry has undergone rapid technological advances in recent years, and questonnaire surveys and physiological measurements were used to evaluate the mental and physical stress imposed by these changes on 1,380 workers involved in 187 different tasks in 12 printing plants. The printing operation provided the most varied and demanding work whereas post-printing operations lacked variety and were repetitive. Problems associated with the use of VDU's were discussed. Job rotation was suggested as a means of relieving repetitiveness. Strong stress reactions or symptoms occurred in more than 20% of workers in some groups.
