| Resumen |
15 of the papers presented at this symposium review experience in the occurrence and prevention of spontaneous heating and combustion in different coalmining regions in the United Kingdom. Each paper reviews the geological conditions in the region and the history of spontaneous heating and combustion, and reports on heatings and fires that have occurred, monitoring procedures and control measures; where research has been carried out on new techniques, this is also reported (e.g. underground trials with pack injection and sealant coatings). The final paper deals with recent developments in the continuous monitoring of mine air for the detection of spontaneous combustion. Discussions that followed presentation of each of the papers are reproduced. |
