Resumen There are few published data available regarding infection prevention and control during the process of body waxing. This microbiological sampling study of wax pot residues in salons was therefore undertaken to inform the Health and Safety Executive on this area of treatment. Samples were collected from 13 beauty salons in the United Kingdom. Most samples were found to be negative for any detectable microbial contamination (bacteria or fungi). The study concluded that the findings were indicative of generally low level of contamination at the limit of available detection levels. Several proposals are made for further improving working methods to reduce risks of contamination.
