Title Agricultural work and the risk of Parkinson's disease in Denmark, 1981-1993
Bibliographic information Aug. 2000, Vol.26, No.4, p.359-362. 13 ref.
Abstract This study examined the possible association between agricultural and horticultural work and subsequent incidence of Parkinson's disease. Cohorts of 2,273,872 men and women, aged between 20 and 59 years, identified in the Central Population Register of Denmark were followed. All first-time hospitalizations with Parkinson's disease were recorded. A high risk of Parkinson's disease was found for the men and women in agriculture and horticulture (134 cases, standardized hospitalization ratio (SHR) 132). Significantly high risks were found for farmers (79 cases, SHR 130) and for all men in agriculture and horticulture (109 cases, SHR 134).
