Abstract Micro firms are defined as firms with up to nine employees. They represent 42.7% of all European Union (EU) enterprises and 24.4% of total employment. This leaflet presents a summary of the most important findings to emerge from research and discussion activities promoted by the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions on employment and the quality of work in small and medium-sized enterprises, with a particular focus on micro firms. A number of social policy recommendations are made, aimed at governments of EU Member States
