Abstract Guidance document to the parts of the South African Mine Health and Safety Act, 1996 (see CIS 96-1928) dealing with the rights and responsibilities of workers in mines. The workers have a right to: a healthy and safe workplace and equipment; health and safety staffing; health and safety training; medical surveillance; leave a dangerous workplace; health and safety representatives; health and safety committees and representatives in relation to codes of practice; not to be discriminated against when exercising rights under the Act. The workers have a duty to: act in accordance with health and safety requirements; not to interfere with safety equipment.
