Title Chemical advisory and notice of potential risk: Skin exposure to molten 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) can cause rapid death
Bibliographic information U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Publications Office, 200 Constitution Avenue, NW, Washington D.C. 20210, USA, 2000. 13p. 12 ref.
Abstract 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) is a chemical intermediate used to produce pesticides and pharmaceuticals. Based on information from recent worker fatality cases, skin exposure of relatively small amounts (1% of body surface) to molten 2,4-DCP can cause rapid death. This information sheet describes four cases of fatalities and gives advice on work practices to protect workers (increase risk awareness, safe procedures, selection of material for pipes and equipment, engineering process control, exposure guidelines, selection of proper protective equipment) and on emergency, first aid and decontamination procedures.
