Acute toxicity: irritation of ocular and respiratory mucous membranes, which can give rise to lesions; pulmonary oedema; oesophageal perforation. Chronic toxicity: dental erosion. Exposure limits (France): TWA = 2ppm (5mg/m3); ceiling value = 4ppm (10mg/m3).
