||The risks in rail transport of dangerous goods - Synthesis of risk studies
||June 1999, Vol.30, No.6, p.18-23. Illus. 26 ref.
||Although the safety record of rail transport of dangerous goods is in general excellent, some recent accidents in Europe have led to major concerns on the part of the railway administrations and the International Union of Railways. The Technical Research Institute of Netherlands Railways was asked to analyse risk studies for the rail transport of dangerous goods. These safety studies were carried out for various reasons: railway safety, emergency planning, external safety, protection of the environment, land use planning, comparison with the safety of other modes of transport, emergency response, cost/benefit analysis of safety measures, safety management, and development of the regulations for the transport of dangerous goods.
