Title Substitution of solvents by N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone
Abstract Methylpyrrolidinone is a solvent mainly used in the electronics industry for the manufacture of semiconductors. This publication presents a concise and critical overview of current knowledge relating to the occupational safety and health, environmental and technical aspects of this solvent. Methylpyrrolidinone is an irritant that is readily absorbed by the skin and that can give rise to contact dermatitis. In Germany, the legal exposure limit has been set at 20ppm for an 8-hour period. In view of its developmental toxicity, the AIHA recommends to limit the exposure to 10ppm weighted over 8 hours.
