Abstract |
This report summarizes the findings of a survey of 1000 United Kingdom companies using hazardous chemicals. Information is presented on the chemicals used, whether risk assessment procedures were in place, the risk reduction methods used, the level of awareness of relevant legislation and occupational exposure limits (OELs), and their role in influencing the choice of risk reduction measures. The majority of firms had carried out some assessment of risk and had risk control measures in place. However, the understanding of OELs was very variable, indicating that they have limited direct influence on the behaviour of small firms. |
