Title Exposure assessment for a field investigation of the acute respiratory effects of metalworking fluids. I. Summary of findings
Bibliographic information Dec. 1996, Vol.57, No.12, p.1154-1162. Illus. 35 ref.
Abstract Worker exposures to metalworking fluids at an automotive part machining facility were evaluated. Exposures were measured as the inhalable concentrations of the metalworking fluid aerosol, a variety of metals and elements, and endotoxin. The level of culturable bacteria in the aerosol fraction less than 8µm was also measured. The exposed workers had higher inhalable aerosol exposures, higher airborne culturable microbial counts, and higher airborne endotoxin levels than unexposed workers. Elemental concentrations of iron, chlorine and sulfur were also higher among the exposed workers.
