Title Pulmonary barotrauma of a diver using an oxygen rebreathing diving apparatus
Bibliographic information Dec. 1996, Vol.67, No.12, p.1198-1200. Illus. 18 ref.
Abstract A case is reported of a healthy male diver who developed clinical symptoms of mediastinal emphysema after performing a dive using a closed circuit oxygen rebreathing apparatus according to normal procedure. Spiral volumetric computed tomography of the chest four days after the incident detected a small subpleural emphysematous bulla next to the left ventricle. In any case of suspected pulmonary barotrauma, computed tomography of the thorax should be performed to evaluate future fitness to dive.
