Abstract This data sheet describes the toxic effects of mercury and provides guidance on the monitoring and protection of exposed workers. Contents: occupational exposure limits (0.025mg/m3 8h TWA elemental mercury vapour or divalent inorganic compounds); sources of exposure; adsorption and elimination; clinical effects (acute and chronic poisoning, effects on the central nervous systems and kidneys, skin sensitization); control of exposure; notification of mercury poisoning; health surveillance before and during work with mercury; information of employees; exposure to organic mercury compounds.
