Abstract This book is based on a symposium held in Bergerac, France in September 1993 and considers how accident prevention activities can be conducted in conjunction with insurance-based schemes. The focus is on the compensation and rehabilitation of accident victims and the financing of these arrangements. Topics covered include: the recording, collection and analysis of information related to injury and disease (examples of systems in some European countries); use of insurance material in injury prevention; compensation and rehabilitation schemes; financing, levies and premiums; restructuring of workers' compensation schemes in Sweden, New Zealand and the USA; new technology and large-scale risks and disasters.
