Title Modeling the temperature dependence of N-methylpyrrolidone permeation through butyl- and natural-rubber gloves
Bibliographic information Sep. 1993, Vol.54, No.9, p.465-479. Illus. 52 ref.
Abstract Study of breakthrough time of N-methylpyrrolidone for butyl and natural rubber gloves. The gloves were tested at four temperatures from 25-50°C. The butyl rubber glove did not show any breakthrough after four hours. The natural rubber gloves showed permeation rates applying well with the Arrhenius relationship. Extrapolation of the temperature to 70-93°C gave breakthrough values of less than 0.5-2 minutes. Experimental values were compared with permeation models. The Fickian diffusion equation gave values of breakthrough time and steady-state permeation time within 23 and 50% respectively of the experimental values.
