Title Occupational risks in automobile-repair workshops

Abstract A study to investigate the occupational risks in the automobile repair sector was carried out in Spain in 1989-90 by the Spanish National Institute of Safety and Health. A summary of the progress report is presented. The study involved 6,103 workers in 456 enterprises. Particular areas studied were: fire prevention; electrical equipment; generation and distribution of compressed air. Preventive measures are provided in all three of these areas. Most significant risks include: flying particles, explosions, fires and falls. Posture at work in relation to the task performed is also discussed. Most significant health risks include: noise exposure, inhalation of hazardous fumes and particles, and contact with hazardous substances such as solvents.
