Abstract Case study of cutaneous and percutaneous intoxication caused by methylene chloride (dichloromethane) and methanol in a paint stripper worker who fell in a vat full of these chemicals. The worker lost consciousness for 15min, during which time he was exposed to fumes of the chemicals. The lesions secondary to the irritant effect of methylene chloride included skin burns, severe keratoconjunctivitis, tympanic perforation and anosmia. Only two similar case records of skin burn lesions caused by methylene chloride have been reported before.
