Abstract Animal studies show that exposure to microwaves of sufficient intensity can cause damage to the eye, in particular, the formation of cataracts. Human studies suggest that occupational microwave exposure is involved in increasing lens aging and injury to the retina. Exposure should be kept below current limits.
