Original title Zur Bedeutung von Persönlichkeitsmerkmalen im Rahmen der verkehrspsychologischen Tauglichkeitsbeurteilung [in German]

Abstract As the demand for responsibility, operational reliability and safety in transport systems increases, the personality characteristics of drivers become ever more important. The various personality inventories described in the literature differ in usefulness for the prediction of drivers' behaviour in real situations. The connection between personality characteristics measured in the laboratory and aptitude for given jobs is weak. This may be due, at least in part, to compensatory processes in the behaviour of the subjects, and to the fact that some personality inventories are intended more to detect mental disease than to test aptitude.
