Abstract This publication provides a general outline of the responsibilities of those who offer for transport consignments of dangerous goods as defined in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and Regulations. It is designed for all those having the responsibility under the law for classifying, preparing, packaging, handling and documenting dangerous goods for transport. This publication also applies to consignors and manufacturers of dangerous goods who are responsible under the law for ensuring the training and certificaiton of employees; registering their firms with the Transport of Dangerous Goods Directorate, Transport Canada; preparing Emergency Response Assistance Plans; reporting dangerous occurrences to the appropriate authorities; and who may wish to apply for permits of exception or for recognition of an equivalent standard.
