Abstract These directives (effective 1 Jan. 1990) apply to foundries with an annual production exceeding 10 tonnes of iron, steel or other metals. The environmental problems referred to are: accidents, unsuitable workloads and chemical health hazards. Coverage: general rules concerning the way the work is planned, directed and performed, including a stipulation of written instructions for particularly dangerous tasks; scrap handling; work at furnaces, moulding machines and core machines, teeming, desanding and fettling; personal protective equipment; inspection and supervision of ladles and moulding boxes. Detailed commentaries are appended.
