Abstract Visual performance at a television screen and at a screen emitting continuous lighting was compared with respect to precision and speed in locating gaps in Landoldt rings. Television screen pulsation reduced the precision and speed of performance after the 1st hour of work in relation to the control screen; this aggravation remained till the end of the experiment. The introduction of 5-minute breaks for relaxation improved the performance. It is recommended to limit the effective working time to 6 hours daily, to make relaxation breaks and to conduct ophthalmological examination of newly employed persons as well as routine examinations.
