Abstract Skin morbidity was studied among 970 sailors of the Bulgarian ocean fishing fleet. The observed high morbidity can be attributed to occupational factors on board and ashore. Dermatomycoses were the predominant complaint (affecting 26.5% of the subjects), followed by dermatitis and eczemas (19.5%) and pyoderma. The highest morbidity rate (139%) occurred in the north-west Atlantic region, which was followed by the central West African Atlantic region (52.4%) and the south-east Atlantic region (38.3%).
