Title Possibility of dangerous voltage build-up in secondary circuits of welders' power supplies

Abstract When two welders use different power supplies (one AC, one DC), or when two power supplies of the same type are connected in opposite polarity, the use of a common ground by the two welders yields a voltage between the two electrodes that is twice the voltage between either electrode and the workpiece; the voltage can be as much as 180V. Where two or more welders are at work on a project that provides a common ground, special instruction and inspection should be provided to make sure that all power supplies are of the same type and are connected with the same polarity.
