Title Interference with the pacemakers of two workers at electricity substations
Bibliographic information Nov. 1983, Vol.40, No.4, p.462-465. Illus. 10 ref.
Abstract 2 case studies of electrical engineers with pacemakers, who experienced pacemaker dysfunction (competitive rhythm in one case, inappropriately slow pacing in the other) when working near high-voltage electric lines (range 132-400kV). A protective suit that would prevent this kind of electromagnetic interference is described. In addition, there is a recent report of improved circuitry in pacemakers, which would lead to an electronic elimination of the interference.
