Title Measurement of stress and workload connected with excavation work for power and water distribution
Original title Belastungs- und Beanspruchungsmessungen bei Tätigkeiten im Tiefbau für die Energie- und Wasserversorgung [in German]
Bibliographic information 1983, Vol.18, No.4, p.82-86. Illus. 11 ref.
Abstract This evaluation involved 20 workers digging trenches for cables and pipelines: work description, types of trenches, working methods, analysis of stress (profile of work elements) and strain (recording of heart rate). Shovelling in narrow trenches was a special form of stress, and high energy expenditures and heart rates requiring relatively long periods of rest were observed. The highest heart rate (170-180min-1) was noted during cable laying.
