Title Allergic contact eczema in the graphic arts - Sensitivity to photopolymers (Letterflex)
Original title Eczema alérgico de contacto en artes gráficas. Sensibilidad a fotopolímeros (Letterflex [in Spanish]

Abstract The Letterflex process is analysed with regard to the chemical exposures and the risks involved. Reactants used are 2,4-toluene diisocyanate and trimethylpropane diethyl ether, with the antioxidant 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-methylphenol and the catalyst dibutyltin dilaurate. The resulting prepolymer is acted on by a polymerising agent, pentaerythritol tetrakis-3-mercaptopropionate (politiol). 3-Mercaptopropionic acid is used as hardener. In the clinical case described, the subject showed a positive patch test reaction to the prepolymer in concentrations of 0.1 and 1% and a negative reaction to politiol, which has been reported as being responsible for contact dermatitis elsewhere.
