Abstract Examinations of 2029 men by means of a kinetic vision tester were used to establish a relation between kinetic visual acuity (KVA) and static visual acuity (SVA). When KVA was determined for an object moving at 30km/h, the normal difference between KVA and SVA was 0.3 at ≤55 years of age. Case studies showed that complaints of visual difficulties on jobs requiring good KVA, e.g. crane or conveyor operators, were often related to an SVA-KVA difference >0.3. Measurements of KVA can be used to determine the suitability of candidates for jobs involving the handling of moving objects, or driving.
