Abstract 42 workers with glue polyneuropathy at various stages were studied as well as 60 workers still active in shoe manufacture. Workers' subjective assessments were a useful criterion of the presence of latent polyneuropathy. EMG studies confirmed nervous conduction disturbances in a high percentage of subjects still in activity. Determination of serum cholinesterase was the most valuable laboratory test. The presence of triorthocresyl phosphate in synthetic leather is considered a factor in the development of the clinical symptoms.
