Abstract This booklet is intended to assist small business employers to meet the legal requirements of the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Act, 1970. It is not a legal interpretation of the Act. It contains a 7-point workplace programme (management leadership; assignment of responsibility; identification and control of hazards; employee and supervisor training; safety and health recordkeeping; first-aid and medical assistance; employee awareness, acceptance and participation. Model self-inspection check lists, and sources of assistance in problem solving are provided.
