Abstract Since the introduction of new ore reduction technologies (electric smelting of unroasted copper-sulfide concentrates, electric reduction in oxygen-blown cyclones, down-draft blowing on sinter lines) and in fire refining in revolving electric arc or induction furnaces, hygiene conditions have improved considerably in copper plants; the new processes involve fewer arduous jobs and less atmospheric pollution. New hygiene techniques such as local exhaust ventilation have contributed to reducing sickness absenteeism.
