Title Long-term study of heart rate and ECG in fettlers
Illus. 101 ref. Price: DM.19.50.
Abstract 29 fettlers in 3 foundries were studied clinically and by telemetry over several weeks. Factors considered were: physiological work load (heat rate, pulse count, ECG), work plan, environmental factors (noise conditions, fine quartz dust levels, effective temperature, radiant heat, lighting). Workplaces in the following categories are desribed and evaluated: (1) shakeout, cooling, cutting of gates and risers; (2) cleaning of castings; (3) deburring and trimming. Work load and environmental factors varied widely, even within a single category, according to the level of automation. Measures are proposed to improve working conditions.
