Abstract Description of tests on the insulating power of work clothes and the use of newspaper for insulating the place of the rescuer in the presence of potentials below 1kV. Knowledge of the insulating power of clothes is of value for calculations in inquiries into accidents and especially when clothing is used to rescue the victim of an electrical accident. The puncture voltage was found to be between 320 and 2,760V according to the thickness and type of the fabric. The intensity of the leakage current was 19-92µA. These values were measured with dry fabric: damp or wet clothing provides no electrical protection. Tests on the insulating power of newspaper confirm that standing on a thick newspaper can have a protective effect for the rescuer.
