Abstract The Industrial Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) is a non-profit trade association of 80 U.S. manufacturers of safety equipment, whose programmes and activities are divided in 12 major product groups: emergency eyewashes and showers; eye and face protection; protection against falls; first aid; head protection; hearing protection; machinery guards; respiratory protection; industrial safety and health instruments; safety cans for flammable liquids; protective clothing; warning devices and signs. Articles by various authors take stock of the progress made in each of these 12 fields, discussing the equipment, with some details of the hazards at work and characteristics of the equipment, especially in relation to U.S. occupational safety and health legislation and standards.
