Title Metal fumes in foundries.
Bibliographic information 1976, Vol.2, Supplement 1, p.42-49. 21 ref.
Abstract The metal content of melting and casting fumes was analysed by X-ray fluorescence, atomic absorption and mass spectrometric methods. The composition of the fumes varied with the kind of alloy, the quality of scrap and the type of melting process. 5-10% of the workers were exposed to lead over the threshold limit value (TLV) (150µg/m3) in steel and iron melting with electric furnaces and 25% in copper alloy melting and casting. 53% of the workers were overexposed to copper (TLV 100µg/m3) and 5% to zinc (TLV 4,000µg/m3) in copper alloy foundries.
