Title Electrical hazards in underground bituminous coal mines.
Bibliographic information MESA Informational Report 1018, Mining Enforcement and Safety Administration, Technical Support Center, 4800 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15213, USA, 1975. 5p. 1 ref.
Abstract Results of a study of 1,404 accident and injury reports for 1972 and 1973 are tabulated: type of accident, material cause, part of body injured. More than 96% of all electrical accidents resulted from electric arcs, electrically generated heat, and electrocution and shock. Cables and trolleys were the greatest cause of electric arcs and burns. A further aspect treated is that of mine fires caused by electrical sources. Some technical safety measures and special training are recommended for the prevention of this type of accident.
