Abstract Description of a case of acute pyridine poisoning observed in a 29 year old female laboratory assistant. A flask containing this product was accidentally broken, and she wiped up the spilled pyridine (duration of exposure: 15-20min). The first symptoms of poisoning did not appear until 10h after the accident, but the patient's condition worsened, necessitating hospitalisation. Some dominant symptoms were uncommon: speech disturbance and signs of diffuse cortical damage. This condition receded after massive administration of thiamine. The authors point out the total absence of signs of irritation of the upper respiratory tract, unlike other cases previously reported.
