Title Formaldehyde and paraformaldehyde study in funeral homes.
Bibliographic information July 1975, Vol.36, No..7, p.533-537. 13 ref.
Abstract This study was undertaken to determine the effect of formaldehyde on embalmers. Ventilation (noise, location, amount of air change) in funeral homes was inadequate in some respects. When the ventilation worked effectively, formaldehyde concentrations were below the threshold limit value of 2ppm; however, workers suffered from the irritating action of the compound. The paraformaldehyde powders contained a respirable fraction that might cause damage to the alveolar walls. It also appears that becoming accustomed to the vapour may be later detrimental to health.
