| Abstract |
A relatively recent technique used in the installation of high voltage switchgear is described, in which all components are encased in a metal enclosure filled with gas under pressure (usually sulfur hexafluoride) which acts as a dielectric. The article describes how extension, maintenance and repair work can be carried out in safety on these installations. The procedure is illustrated by 2 examples (replacement of a changeover isolating switch, replacement of a busbar section), with circuit diagrams. No interruption of normal operation of the system is required, and yet all contact with live elements is avoided. |
