| Abstract |
Since fires and explosions often occur in oxygen lances and piping which cannot be attributed to normal causes, the possibility that static electricity could accumulate during the injection of oxygen into steel-making furnaces was investigated. The presence of humidity and solid particles in the oxygen is considered to be a possible causal factor. The results of tests carried out on an experimental plant show that, in the conditions given, the accumulation of static electricity can be expected. |
