Abstract The objective of this study was to examine the possible associations between carcinogenic risks to humans and occupational exposure to perchloroethylene (PER). A Swedish cohort of over 10,000 dry-cleaning and laundry workers assembled in 1984 was followed up for new cases of cancer by matching with the Swedish cancer register from 1985 to 2006 and the results were compared with expected frequencies derived from national reference data. Findings are discussed. Overall, there was no clear association between PER exposure and subsequent cancer morbidity among these workers.
